Acid Reflux Diet

Working with your diet when you have acid reflux can be very challenging. To control Acid Reflux, you need to be on an acid reflux diet. Most recipes can be changed to fit your needs. Here are pointers to make this transaction to good digestive health much easier.

Acid Reflux Diet Recommendations

Cut down on fats

The first place to start, is cutting down on fats, but not totally out, as you need some healthy fats for good health.

If you use Teflon cookware, to avoid fats, always cook on lower heat, not high. There is some leaching into the food of the material, so it is best not to use it.

Non stick pan sprays are excellent. Try the olive oil one. For foods that need oil or butter brushed on try a light spray of pan spray.

An excellent idea is to substitute pureed applesauce or apricots for fats in baking. Try the baby food section for apricot puree. Pureed prunes are an excellent fat substitute in baking and still keep the moistness.

Cut down on sugar

Most of us have acquired a salt and sugar taste. Start by cutting the sugar by a third to one half. Watch your sugar substitutes.

Look into natural herbal sugar substitutes, such as Stevia. Don't use molecularly altered sugar substitutes, as these can cause serious detrimental health problems.

Educate yourself before trying something you are not sure of. Many altered and chemical created substitutes can damage your health. See this doctors book: Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills

Foods that cause acid reflux

Begin to notice which foods and the ingredients in the food set off your acid reflux. Keep a diary for two weeks and write down your reactions and what foods you ate.

Garlic is an herb that is used both in cooking as medicine. It can cause a flare up of acid reflux for some people. Try using a smaller amount to season with. Or take your medicinal garlic at a time between meals.

Many cheeses contain a lot of fat, so use the low fat kind, or very thin slices. You may need to remove it from your diet for a while.

Tomatoes can be a real problem. You may be able to use a small amount of tomatoes in your soup. Think about using just a small amount of tomatoes. If you still are having problems, your diet for acid reflux disease should probably eliminate tomatoes.

Review your cooking recipes as to how many reflux trigger foods are in it. Can you add ingredients, or change ingredients? Rather than deep fry, can you bake, boil, simmer or steam.

Remember fats are one of the main relaxers of the reflux valve, so be wary of any high fat recipes. An acid reflux diet is a very important part of stopping the acid reflux.

This was an overview, but you need a complete acid rerflux diet to overcome your problem. Is it stoppable?

Absolutely. You just need to follow an outline of someone who has been through this and now guides others as to what to do. Check this out:
